All-on-X Dental Implants in Greater Phoenix, AZ

9 Convenient Dental Offices In The Phoenix Area

When most or all teeth in an arch are failing, repairing one tooth at a time may no longer be the most useful plan. All-on-X uses multiple dental implants to support a fixed full-arch set of replacement teeth, giving selected patients an alternative to a removable denture.

Dental Design Studios uses the term All-on-X because the number of implants is based on the individual case rather than always being exactly four. When conditions allow, fixed temporary teeth can be attached the same day as implant placement so you do not have to go through the healing period without teeth.

What Does All-on-X Mean?

The “X” reflects the fact that full-arch implant treatment is not built around one universal implant count. The number and position of implants are selected according to the jaw, available bone, bite, and the design of the planned replacement teeth.

Those implants support a connected arch of replacement teeth that stays fixed in the mouth. Unlike a Snap-On Denture, the patient does not remove the teeth at home. The exact design is planned around the available bone, bite, and space instead of forcing every case into a four-implant template.

Who May Consider Full-Arch Implant Treatment?

All-on-X may be considered when many teeth are missing, several remaining teeth are unlikely to stay healthy long term, or a removable denture no longer provides the stability or experience a patient wants. It can also be part of a planned transition when keeping and repeatedly repairing individual teeth would no longer provide a dependable long-term result.

The decision is not based on tooth count alone. Gum health, available bone, medical history, smoking or tobacco use, ability to maintain the restoration, and bite forces all affect candidacy. Some patients need additional treatment before implants can be placed.

What Happens on the Day of Surgery?

If remaining teeth need to be removed, extraction and implant placement may be coordinated during the same visit when appropriate. The implants are positioned to support the planned full arch, and their initial stability is assessed before temporary teeth are attached.

Dental Design Studios provides fixed temporary teeth immediately for appropriate All-on-X cases. Those teeth allow you to eat, speak, and smile during healing, but they are temporary. The implants still need time to heal and become stable in the jaw before the final restoration is completed.

Why Are the Temporary Teeth Different From the Final Teeth?

The mouth changes during healing. Swelling resolves, the gums adapt, and the implants become integrated with the surrounding bone. A temporary restoration is designed for that transitional period and allows the bite and appearance to be evaluated while healing takes place.

Once healing has progressed and the implants and gums are stable, new records are taken to design the final set of teeth. Waiting until the mouth has healed allows the final fit, bite, and appearance to be planned around the changes that have actually occurred.

Digital Planning and 3D Printing

Full-arch implant treatment relies on detailed planning. TRIOS 3D intraoral scanners are available at all nine Dental Design Studios offices, while CBCT imaging is available at selected locations when three-dimensional evaluation of the jaw is needed.

The 75th Ave Dental Studio also has 3D-printing capability that is used heavily in the All-on-X workflow. These tools support planning and temporary restoration fabrication, but technology does not replace the need to evaluate healing, implant stability, and the final bite.

All-on-X vs. Snap-On Dentures

Both treatments use implants, but the day-to-day experience is different. All-on-X is fixed and remains attached in the mouth. A Snap-On Denture connects to implants for added retention but can be removed by the patient.

Cleaning techniques, maintenance, surgery, and the feel of the restoration differ as well. The right option depends on what you value, how the mouth can support treatment, and how comfortable you are with the maintenance each approach requires.

Caring for a Fixed Full-Arch Restoration

Fixed teeth still need thorough daily cleaning. Plaque and food can collect where the restoration meets the gums and around implant components, so you may need floss threaders, interdental brushes, a water flosser, or other tools recommended for your design.

Professional maintenance is also important. The dentist and hygiene team need to monitor the gum tissues, implants, bite, and restoration over time so small maintenance needs can be addressed before they become larger problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is All-on-X the same as All-on-4?

All-on-4 is a specific branded term associated with a four-implant concept. All-on-X is a broader term that allows the implant number and arrangement to be selected for the individual case.

Dental Design Studios provides fixed temporary teeth immediately for appropriate All-on-X cases. The final teeth are completed after healing and additional records.

No. They are designed for the healing period. Final teeth are made after the implants and tissues have stabilized.

No. Bone needs vary from patient to patient. The treatment plan may or may not include additional procedures depending on the shape and amount of available bone and where the implants need to be positioned.
No. The restoration is fixed in place. If professional removal is needed for maintenance or repair, that is handled by the dental team.
All-on-X uses implants to support a fixed arch of teeth that the patient does not remove at home. A Snap-On Denture also uses implants for added stability, but the denture remains removable for daily cleaning.

I broke a temporary bridge. As usual Toni went above and beyond to squeeze me in the very next morning. She and Bernice worked hard to make me a new temporary, but it kept breaking. Finally, Toni thought outside the box and put my old one back on and repaired the broken part. I am a happy camper!

I finally found a dental office that can clean and treat me in my own wheelchair since I am unable to transfer to their dental chair. The cleaning was not unpleasant and Melanie and Dr. Karren were very personable. This was my first visit with them so I’m hoping things continue well.

I arrived in excruciating pain and very anxious to the point I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest however He and his staff were so kind And walked me through step-by-step on what needed to happen next, and I was able to relax And have my dental work done in no time. I highly recommend this dental office they are amazing.
