Curodont® for Early Cavities in Greater Phoenix, AZ

9 Convenient Dental Offices In The Phoenix Area

Not every area of tooth decay begins as a hole that needs a filling. In its earliest stage, decay can start as mineral loss beneath the enamel surface while the outer structure of the tooth is still intact. When that happens, there may be an opportunity to treat the area before traditional drilling is necessary.

Dental Design Studios offers Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus for eligible early, non-cavitated decay. Curodont is not a replacement for fillings when a cavity has already broken through the tooth surface, but it can give us another option when decay is caught early enough.

What Is Curodont?

Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus is an in-office treatment designed for selected early caries lesions. It is applied to a tooth where demineralization has begun but the surface has not yet collapsed into a cavity that requires restorative treatment.

The material is intended to support remineralization within the affected enamel rather than covering the outside of the tooth like a sealant. Your dentist must first determine that the lesion is at a stage where this type of treatment is appropriate.

What Does “Early Cavity” Mean?

Decay is a process, not an instant event. Acids produced by bacteria can begin removing minerals from enamel before a visible hole develops. On an exam or dental X-ray, that early change may appear as an area of demineralization while the tooth surface remains intact.

Once enough tooth structure has been lost to create a cavitated area, a filling is usually needed to remove damaged tissue and restore the shape of the tooth. Curodont is intended for the earlier window, which is why regular examinations can make a practical difference.

What Happens During Curodont Treatment?

The tooth is cleaned and isolated so the material can be applied to the affected area under controlled conditions. Because the treatment does not involve removing healthy tooth structure, eligible cases can be treated without drilling or an injection for the application itself.

The appointment does not change the need for home care. Fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, diet habits, and regular dental monitoring all remain important because the treated tooth can still develop new decay or progress if cavity-causing conditions remain.

Curodont or a Filling?

The choice depends on the condition of the tooth, not on which option sounds easier. If the enamel surface is intact and the lesion is at an appropriate early stage, Curodont may be considered. If there is already a hole, weakened tooth structure, or decay that has progressed too far, a composite filling or another restoration may be the better treatment.

We will show you what we are seeing and explain why the area qualifies for one approach or the other. Catching a lesion early does not guarantee that every tooth can avoid a filling, but it can create more conservative options.

How Is Curodont Different From a Sealant?

A dental sealant is a protective coating placed over susceptible grooves, usually to reduce the chance that decay starts in those areas. Curodont is used when an early caries lesion has already begun but has not yet become cavitated.

In other words, sealants are primarily preventive, while Curodont is a treatment for selected early decay. Both still depend on good oral hygiene and continued dental monitoring. The dentist needs to determine whether the tooth is healthy and vulnerable, already showing early demineralization, or has progressed far enough to need a filling.

Can Children Receive Curodont?

Children may be candidates once the dentist can identify an eligible early lesion and the child can comfortably cooperate with the application. Dental Design Studios generally provides family dental care beginning around age five, although candidacy for Curodont depends on the tooth and the stage of decay rather than age alone.

Early cavity treatment can be especially useful when it helps preserve healthy tooth structure, but it should not create false reassurance. The tooth still needs to be monitored at future visits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Curodont reverse every cavity?

No. It is intended for selected early, non-cavitated lesions. Once decay has created a hole or significantly damaged the tooth, restorative treatment may be necessary.

The application itself is noninvasive and does not require removing tooth structure. The dentist must first confirm that the lesion is appropriate for this type of treatment.

No. Curodont is a specific treatment designed for early caries lesions. Your dentist can explain how it differs from other preventive or remineralization approaches.

The dentist examines the tooth and may use dental X-rays or other records to determine whether the surface is still intact and the decay is at a stage that can be treated with Curodont.

Yes. The treated area needs continued monitoring, and the rest of the mouth remains at risk for new decay if cavity-causing conditions are still present.

Curodont can be considered for eligible early, non-cavitated decay in both children and adults. The deciding factor is the stage and condition of the tooth surface, not age alone.

Dr. Wasey is an absolute artist. I had two crowns put in for my front teeth and they look gorgeous. I was really concerned about how my smile would look after the work being done but it came out looking fantastic. Christina helped me out multiple times, she is a great receptionist. Thank you for all the work and kindness!
